This coastal canal inks various rivers and backwaters making a continuous water transportation way from Kodungallur to Kozhikode. It was named after the visionary Britisher Canoli who initiated the project. In Thrissur district the canal follows the backwaters, rivers and existing canal stretches from Kodunagllur through Triprayar and Kandassankadavu to Chettuva. After Chettuva, the proper canal switches to the western part of the highway under the bridge and moves to Chavakkad and Ponnani. It becomes narrow and has undergone silting and encroachment in many areas. If developed, it can become a major tourist attraction winding through scenic village stretches.
