Manikandeswaram Uma Maheswara temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and Parvati, in Vadakkekad. Believed to be more than two thousand years old, this is one of the oldest temples in India. It is also one of the rare temples where Shiva and Parvati residing together in the same sanctum sanctorum (Sreekovil) with Ganapati right outside. The concept is that of Shiva holding Parvati with his left palm while Ganapati is sitting on Parvati's lap. There are numerous sculptures around the sreekovil. Temple is spread over an acre of land and consists of medium-sized temple pond along with temples of Vadakke Shiva, Palakkal Bhagavathy (form of Durga), Ayyappa outside the main temple building.
