This Devi Temple was set up by a Namboodiri to avert disasters that continually befell this place. The idol here is unique and is cleaned only with peacock feathers and is said to have been consecrated by Parasurama, the legendary founder of Kerala and the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is the foremost among the one hundred and eight Goddess shrines of Kerala. Urakam Ammathiruvadi Temple is an architectural marvel with its majestic Rajagopuram (ornamental gateways), Mathilkettu (compound walls), ootupura (feeding hall), nalambalam (building immediately surrounding the sanctum sanctorum), the double storied Shrikovil (sanctum sanctorum) and the serene atmosphere maintained at the inner temple. This temple is a major participant of the Arattupuzha Pooram. Ammathiruvadi Temple conducts five famous festivals annually including Navaratri, Thrikkarthika, Pooram, Illam Nira and Vavarat.
