Desamangalam along with Arangottukara is a lush, green village in Thrissur district on the banks of Nila and is easily accessible from both Shoranur and Wadakkanchery. The village is noted for its flourishing agrarian economy and the presence of a rich living heritage in the form of folk art performers, artisans and handicraft makers. Recently there has been a collective effort here, through the well known NGO, Vayali Cultural Group. Vayali has revived ancient folk arts, revitalized craft traditions and have well documented them. Also they are offering experience tours for those interested. Vayali is constructing its own premises that will house a digital folklore library, folklore museum, seminar room, discussion room and an eco-shop where local artisans can exhibit and sell their products.
