This beach is located in Eriyad near Kodungallur and is the place where the backwater meets with the sea. It was here that St. Thomas the Apostle first landed in India. The beach has a small beach park and large area with Chinese fishing nets and casuarina groves. The beach was developed under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme by Harbor Engineering Department. The sand deposited when the Munambam Harbor Breakwater was formed has made Munakkal one of the largest beaches in Kerala spanning over sixty acres. A four hundred metre open-air auditorium, one thousand three hundred metre walkway, toilets, facilities for persons with disabilities, food courts, skateboarding grip for children, rain shelters, children’s park, all terrain vehicle track etc. are the major attractions of the beach. A casuarina forest set up by the Kerala Forest Department and the Kerala Maritime Institute are added attractions. The beach is being developed as the first fully differently abled friendly beach in the state.
