Thrissur Town Hall is an excellent monument of erstwhile Thrissur’s administrative, military and cultural history. It houses the ‘Chitralayam’ Gallery, where mural paintings from all parts of Kerala are on display, the old manuscripts, written on palm leaves and called ‘olagrandhangal’ and also an excellent library and auditorium. It was constructed during the Dewanship of RK Shanmughom Chetti in honor of King George for his silver jubilee and has been renamed after Kerala’s former Chief Minister, Sri. K Karunaaran. The architecture is in the Victorian style with a lawn and garden in front.
